Developed during 1969, the base was turned over to the Vietnamese Navy in December 1970 when American forces began withdrawing from the war. zsmith Posted December 15, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 15, 2016 Came across this on one of the guestbooks: I was just down the river from you in Kien An. We were south, first Rach Soi and then Kien An a Army/Navy support base with about 40 guys. If the base was only operational for a couple of years and had around 40 people I'd think your patch would be pretty rare.

slimm_jimm1 Posted January 16, 2019 Share #12 Posted January 16, 2019 I know it's been 3 years since your post but I hope you see this. I went to Kien An Op Base as a Navy Advisor to the Vietnamese Unit RID 40 in Jan 1970 to April 1970 before we moved our Viet Unit to Go Da Hau just above the Parrots Beak Cambodia. . The smaller river was a route into the Northern Uminh. The Army Corps of Engineers with the help of some Seals from Rach Gia layed out an Anti Personnel Radar kind of System outside of the Base on the other side of the Moats . The base had a river on two sides and a moat on two sides. There was a small draw bridge on the small river side to allow access from the base to a small Ville along side of the river. I used to have that patch sewed on a camo-shirt. If you ever decide to sell it please let me know I have lost mine over the years.
