Lafayette Escadrille Uniform?

The hand written markings on the interior may possibly be a squadron indication. The 74th Squadron was organized in May 1916. French practice was to identify their squadrons by the type of aircraft they flew, such as C46 (Caudron 46), or N49 (Nieuport 49). The letter V would indicate Voisin aircraft. I have not seen any information Voisin were assigned to the 74th. My meager information says the squadron was originally equipped with Caudron aircraft when it was attached to the Belgian Army after formation. Salmson aircraft were issued in late 1918, being retained through 1919. Some squadrons flew certain types very briefly, and perhaps that is what we have here. Of course, the markings may have nothing at all to do with a unit. I am no French aviation expert. I offer this for what it is worth. MHJ
