Eric Queen Posted December 1, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2016 It does not look like the originals I have seen. Just my opinion.
Colonel Sanders Posted December 1, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2016 Design is correct and it has the Aussie type thread on the back... I'd say it's ok IMO.
Eric Queen Posted December 1, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 1, 2016 Here is an original of this type for comparison.
vintageproductions Posted December 1, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 1, 2016 Looks like one of the US made pieces not an Aussie made piece.
will m. Posted December 1, 2016 Share #7 Posted December 1, 2016 Have to agree with Eric Queen......I have had these, red, blue. green and black if I recall correctly. Never had one with cheese cloth backing and I think the design was carried out better. Also the roundel its self is rather poorly cut on the posted example. These (in a modified design) were also printed on wool felt.....rather rare. Australian produced patches (all types) were generally very well made. JDK Posted December 1, 2016 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2016 Looks like one of the US made pieces not an Aussie made piece. I agree. U.S. made. JD
checkit Posted December 1, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted December 1, 2016 Okay so my understanding of your opinions is - of the period, stateside patch?
m1ashooter Posted December 1, 2016 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2016 According to the bomb groups web site blue is a 319th patch. The 400 BS is Black.
mortaydc60 Posted December 1, 2016 Share #11 Posted December 1, 2016 I also agree with Eric. I would say US made repro; the art work on the skull is not up to snuff and is not period work.
checkit Posted December 1, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted December 1, 2016 Okay - Repro then. I was not aware they were faking this style..
Eric Queen Posted December 1, 2016 Share #13 Posted December 1, 2016 I wonder if it could be something similar to the airborne units "boots" patches. Made in the US in the late 40's for veterans. I don't know. Just a thought.
smwinter207 Posted December 1, 2016 Share #14 Posted December 1, 2016 They're only faking them if they charge an Original's price. But it is a nice looking patch.
vintageproductions Posted December 1, 2016 Share #15 Posted December 1, 2016 I've owned a few of the US made ones, and most were right out of vet groupings.
doyler Posted December 2, 2016 Share #16 Posted December 2, 2016 Just an observation and question....is it comon for the back threads to have olive drab mixed in on the US made ones? There was or is one on ebay for sale and I recall it had the same skull features and cheese cloth.I think it sold in the last few days.
Eric Queen Posted December 2, 2016 Share #17 Posted December 2, 2016 This is what the one which started the thread reminds me of http://www.ebay.com/itm/b4439-WW2-US-Army-Air-Force-Bomb-Squadron-90th-Bomb-Group-Jolly-Roger-Dk-b-R11SC-/381797802145?hash=item58e4ec20a1:g:iPEAAOSwj0NUbl-a
doyler Posted December 2, 2016 Share #18 Posted December 2, 2016 This is the one I saw and wondered about.Details looked off to me but never handled all the variations. http://www.ebay.com/itm/USAAF-World-War-II-Army-Air-Force-Jolly-Roger-Flight-Jacket-Squadron-Patch-/311742145341?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=KsU4DUVObZROjqbtaYwMHEf%252BYuU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Eric Queen Posted December 2, 2016 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2016 I think all three patches were made at the same time (by the same entity). Look at the mesh material on the backs. They all follow the same pattern. Missing/torn on both sides only.
