bobatl Posted November 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2016 This photo was taken at Travis AFB, California in 1995. The B-29 "Miss America of 1962" had just been rolled out of the hangar after restoration for the base museum. The Lockheed C-5 in the background was built at Air Force Plant 6 in Marietta, Georgia which was originally operated by Bell Aircraft for construction of B-29's. The plant was leased to Lockheed in 1951 for refurbishment of B-29's being sent to Korea. The last "Bell Bomber" employee I knew of working at Lockheed retired about a week before this photo was taken; he said that he had been sixteen years old running hydraulic checkout on B-29's. Garandomatic Posted November 30, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2016 Now that's cool. I had to look up the plane... I really like that the pilot named it that because that's when his daughter would be eligible to be Miss America!
