SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted November 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2016 I may be totally crazy here, but for some reason I seem to remember reading a thread and seeing photos of Marines wearing the Army style Marksman Buttons? Anyone have any info?
teufelhunde.ret Posted November 25, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2016 Are you speaking of the Army quad badge from the 20/30s?
dag Posted November 25, 2016 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2016 Only thread I recall on the Marksman's buttons was this one, although nothing about being worn by Marines... http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/276667-early-1900s-marksmanship-button/?hl=%2Bmarksman+%2Bbutton&do=findComment&comment=2226702 Also attached is a scan from Albert's Military Button book on this button. SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted November 25, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted November 25, 2016 Yes, I am talking about the ones like Dag just showed.. the square bullseye-buttons that resemble the current USMC Marksman badge. For some reason I thought someone has posted some photos of Marines wearing these as well on their collars and also cuffs.. I am aware of the striker patch version that Marines would wear but I could have sworn I also these buttons being worn. Again I could be totally imagining that... Lee Ragan Posted November 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2016 In the 1800's, the Army wore those on collars. Emerson's book on Army shooting badges will tell the correct story about that.
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted April 28, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted April 28, 2019 I found it! Here is a close up from a photo on the Library on Congress site showing a Marine wearing one.
