Does anyone out there know, what if any French award would have been awarded to an American PFC killed in action. This particular soldier earned a silver star citation with his Victory medal. was it case by case, or would it usually have been the same award or two? I understand the medaille militaire was just awarded to officers, and Croix de guerres for enlisted. I could certainly be wrong.

Cheers

A simple answer. None.

The medaille militaire was awarded to general (by exception) and NCOs. The CdG was awarded to all ranks.

No us serviceman was awarded a French decoration just by simple getting wounded.

Herman

Well, the CdD was a valor award, so while he wouldn't have been awarded one specifically for being KIA, there's a good chance the French awarded him one for the action seeing that he was cited by the Americans for (what would become) the Silver Star, too.
