Stillwell Posted November 21, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2016 Trying to clear up some confusion on my end as to the story of one or two donkeys that were smuggled back from Tunisia on the Regensberg Mission. Both stories involve one getting picked up by an aircraft after it landed in Tunisia after the Schweinfurt-Regensberg mission in 1943, being taken in by the crew and accompanying them back to England, bombing Bordeaux in the process. But there was one story of one getting picked up by Capt Owen "Cowboy" Roane and named Mo (later Chloe apparently when they found out it was a female)https://100thbg.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82:mo-the-donkey-and-other-stories&catid=19:varian-history&Itemid=141 Then there was a separate story (With pictures) of a donkey getting brought back by the 96th BG and named Lady Moe, later becoming the mascot of the Army for the Army-Navy football game in 1944http://www.stelzriede.com/ms/html/mshwma16.htm Anyone have any more information on this? It's a silly story but It's looking like 2 separate bomb groups brought back donkey stowaways.
northcoastaero Posted December 1, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2016 There is a book titled Soldiers First by Joe Drape (2012). It is about football at West Point. I will be receiving the book from our library system in the next week or so. Will check it out for additional information that you requested.
