phillock Posted April 21 Share #176 Posted April 21 Hi Tonimachi Made for collectors or made in anticipation by manufacturers as has done so many times with US made tabs from the 50s/60s? USMC had gold wings during this period maybe some link? How would you eplain it? cheers Phill
Tonomachi Posted April 21 Share #177 Posted April 21 My guess would be made for collectors as I haven't found any evidence that they were ever worn. When I first saw these I thought they might have been produced to be worn on those green aviation one piece flight suits. However later on it was explained to me that Seals wore these flight suits during CQB and VBSS training as well as during free fall jumps due to being streamlined and fire retardant. They didn't wear any name tapes during training so they were at times mistaken for aviators on board ship. The regular Navy didn't like this so they were ordered to start wearing name tapes. Instead of wearing regular embroidered name tapes they had leather rectangular name tags produced with their name, rank and the Trident embossed in gold. Spike Posted June 26 Author Share #179 Posted June 26 I have these odd colored UDT patches. The 11 is off a uniform so I would assume that some of these light green Freddie's were worn. The 11 came from a UDT 11 guy who was on the Operation Thunderhead op in 1972. I have several of the UDT 13 versions and the 12 I got a couple of months ago to complete the set. aefcav Posted June 26 Share #181 Posted June 26 I have one of those flight suits from a plank at 6, there is no insignia on it, I inquired with him on insignia and he remembers them being sterile, not sure of earlier units.
