patches Posted November 9, 2016 #3 Posted November 9, 2016 Units of the 1st Div did pull duty at the trial, but they wore their unit DIs on the lower lapels. The wear of DIs on the shoulder loops instead of the lower lapels came a bit after the trial ended in 1947. So these Patch Type Crests DIs for the Nuremberg unit were I believe worn by non divisional personnel assigned directly to the 6850 Internal Security Detachment, and with particular jacket the 18th Infantry DIs should be affixed properly to the lower lapels. Here's guys from the 18th Infantry at the trial, one of many of 1st Division troops at Nuremberg one will see out there in books or on the web. While they do wear this Nuremberg unit insignia on the sides of their White painted helmet liners, they wear their units DI, the 18th Infantry, and are wearing the M1926 Coat rather the Eisenhower Jackets (for the Formal Look), I suspect this guy was there, and acquired these DIs, you know like traded or bought to have in example, and they were placed there on the jacket, by say a family member, or some other individual who acquired the group. So no worries there as far as we can see, a real nice Big Red One Eisenhower. Here's the Nuremberg Patch Type Crest in use post # 183 http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/171731-post-the-patch-type-crest-being-worn/page-8
72psb Posted November 9, 2016 #4 Posted November 9, 2016 My dad was assigned to the 1st /26th for the trials. He was not part of the 6850th ISD. He did however bring back a DUI.It may have come from a nurse that was in the 6850th and signed his autograph book with a sweet note to him.
