swag Posted September 29, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2008 For all you Huey lovers out there. These pictures were sent to me by my buddy at NTC. The photographer, Ted Carlson, was hired by the army to photograph this bird along with the Lakota (see that thread here). This particular Huey is used as the Opposing Forces helicopter during training exercises at Ft. Irwin, CA.

Mercenary25 Posted September 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 29, 2008 Always love Huey. Why is it in winter camo scheme?
locobuster Posted September 29, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 29, 2008 Always love Huey. Why is it in winter camo scheme? I'd say because it's used as part of the "Opposing Forces", but I could be wrong. Cheers! Syd
Spathologist Posted September 30, 2008 Share #11 Posted September 30, 2008 Always love Huey. Why is it in winter camo scheme? It's "different", nothing like any US scheme, for use by the OPFOR. That's not really a Huey, it's a "HIND"....
gwb123 Posted September 30, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 30, 2008 Okay, you will love this... At one time the US Army at Ft. Hood experimented with ultra light aircraft that had a 2 dimensional profile of a Hind. It was basically the side view of a Hind stretched across an aluminum frame. The wing was painted to simulate the sideview of a turning rotor. It looked neat flying across the front of you, but the image faded if it turned towards you. I always wondered how these fake "Hinds" fared when a Cobra suddenly popped up behind them!
