STG44 Posted October 31, 2016 #1 Posted October 31, 2016 Got this from a buddy on Saturday. Don't know who the vet was that brought it back.
Bob Hudson Posted October 31, 2016 #2 Posted October 31, 2016 Even though it is not ID'ed to a particular vet, that carving screams "WAR SOUVENIR!"
Bob Hudson Posted October 31, 2016 #3 Posted October 31, 2016 A weapons purist might cry at the carving, but I'd bet that if you had this hanging on the wall it would be the first thing non-collectors would ask about.
STG44 Posted October 31, 2016 Author #4 Posted October 31, 2016 I bet you are right. I can picture this rifle hanging on a wall in the vet's den and I'm sure everyone asked him about it.
USdog Posted October 31, 2016 #5 Posted October 31, 2016 That is a really nice rifle, congrats. I love the engraving on the stock... I got a nice type 38 from the vets son not too long ago.
sundance Posted October 31, 2016 #6 Posted October 31, 2016 Boy that looks unissued. I like the carving. I can see the other side though since the stock is so pristine. Overall I think it's nicely done and a plus.
Bob Hudson Posted October 31, 2016 #7 Posted October 31, 2016 Wonder if anyone ever carved "MADE IN JAPAN" on an Arisaka?
sundance Posted October 31, 2016 #8 Posted October 31, 2016 I forgot to mention - I love those Type 99's.
Garandomatic Posted November 1, 2016 #9 Posted November 1, 2016 Saw a Japanese rifle once that said "BAKA" on it... That was pretty cool...
STG44 Posted November 1, 2016 Author #11 Posted November 1, 2016 I didn't take any pictures yet of the other side but it is as nice as the side shown. Sadly, the mum is ground. Since this rifle is worth much anyways I think the carving doesn't hurt its value too much.
M24 Chaffee Posted November 1, 2016 #12 Posted November 1, 2016 I think that's a great looking souvenir! I like the carving! Frank
BROBS Posted December 28, 2016 #14 Posted December 28, 2016 I didn't take any pictures yet of the other side but it is as nice as the side shown. Sadly, the mum is ground. Since this rifle is worth much anyways I think the carving doesn't hurt its value too much. I would say it actually adds value IMO. nice rifle, -Brian
Sgt. BARney Posted December 28, 2016 #15 Posted December 28, 2016 Looks to be in really good condition and I agree, the carving just adds to the interest. Seems like there are lots of Arisakas out there for sale (and surprisingly affordable - relatively speaking) but very very few with any kind of vet capture markings. Love those battlefield photos which include Marines/Soldiers with a captured Arisaka slung on their back.
katieony Posted December 29, 2016 #16 Posted December 29, 2016 A very nice "bring back"...thanks for posting!
