WWII Legacy Girl Posted October 29, 2016 #1 Posted October 29, 2016 Hi there, I came across a pair of what I found to be 8th Cavalry Regiment insignia still in the package. They are clutch-back and marked S-38 marked on back. If anyone could tell me anything from a collectors view about these; how much they are worth, what era, how rare, if they are any special type, etc., I would be very appreciative. Thanks!!!
atb Posted October 29, 2016 #2 Posted October 29, 2016 Not rare, approved design, modern production, value low monetarily.
KurtA Posted October 29, 2016 #3 Posted October 29, 2016 Also, they're not a true "pair." A true pair for this particular unit would have the horse heads facing each other.
patches Posted October 30, 2016 #4 Posted October 30, 2016 As per atb and Kurt A. Right and Left facing 8th Cav DI's, are what your seeing below. These are like this because of their wear on the shoulder loops of uniforms, horse's head must face forward, even earlier in the 1930s/WWII on the lower lapels of the Enlistedman's M1926 Coat/Eisenhower Jacket. Quite a few unit DIs are like this, the design being Right and Left facing, in example the 31st Infantry, the 9th Cavalry to name but two. Your set LG also is post 1974, Made In USA along with code S-38 tells us that.
