Two patches for the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, U.S. Parachute Team (a predecessor to the U.S. Army's Golden Knights team) tryouts held in 1960. Also, the arm band worn by the participant so that the judges could score him as he jumped for his technique and landing accuracy. All received directly for the participant who later served with the 5th Special Force Group (Airborne) during Vietnam, and afterwards in other SF groups.

He told me he blacked out the word "Tryouts" on the top patch when he made the team.

Top: Fort Carson, Colorado, Sport Parachute Club patch.

Middle: McDill Air Force Base Sport Parachute Club patch. Forgive the inclusion of what may be an Air Force patch in the Army patch section of the Forum. This club may not be comprised solely of Air Force personnel, but may also include those serving with the Army's 7th Special Forces Group since they are also based at McDill.

18th Airborne Corps Sport Parachute Club certificate awarded to those club members who perform their first freefall jump. Sorry it is hard to see, it has been faded from age.

ocsfollowme, I hope you'll excuse my deviation, in some cases, from the thread title of "Sport Parachute Club" patches. I also posted examples of Parachute Team patches.

Closely related, the difference is that Sport Parachute Clubs are military recreational clubs whose members are jump qualified, pay club membership dues and jump fees, and provide their own insurance.

Parachute Teams are Army sponsored and funded, public relations, recruitment-oriented, exhibition teams.

I failed to add something to the Sport Parachute Club definition - they are heavily subsidized by the Army - membership dues and jump fees don't cover the entire cost of a jump, the Army pays the majority of it. The dues cover the beer. Also, they are open only (at least back in the day) to active duty personnel.

7th Group is based at Elgin AFB, not MacDill. USSOCOM is at MacD.

Here is one no one has posted yet.

I just saw this on eBay as I didn't know there were variations of this patch.
