triplecanopy Posted October 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2016 This is an example of another scarce insignia maker, Leonard. This company was mainly known for embroidered products and their other name is Leonard Embroidery Company located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One source indicates that they made patches for the military as far back as WWII. From this example and a few others, it is also known that they also made metal insignia. Here is the front side of the Leonard Phila. marked parachute badge. See below for the reverse side with hallmark.
triplecanopy Posted October 28, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted October 28, 2016 Here is the reverse side of the Leonard, Phila. basic parachute badge. The hallmark LEONARD PHILA. is stamped on the left side and the Sterling mark visible on the right side is raised. This is a die struck badge with clear markings in the right places. This is also a very scarce maker. The address listed in my source indicates that The Leonard Embroidery Company was located on Allegheny Avenue in Philadelphia, Pa. It also indicated that they used IOH hallmarks 2L and L23. This example is clutchback, but there may be some pinback examples out there. Those with other information about this maker, please feel free to add it.

triplecanopy Posted March 16, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted March 16, 2018 Some sharp eyed buyer snagged this example off eBay recently. These don't come by very often.
triplecanopy Posted March 16, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted March 16, 2018 Another example of this hallmark. This badge is bent a little, probably by the original owner.
