Cool DI and it sure looks like a searchlight at the bottom. was this an U/A DI?

The 331st Antiaircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion was disbanded on 4 December 1944 in Italy, but was reconstituted on 5 August 1958 in the Regular Army.

There is as example of this DI currently for sale on ebay. The seller lists it as being for the 516th Engineer Searchlight Battalion. The pins on the back are of a different type. Who knows? :)

Firefighter: this isn't e replacement pin, rather a variant german reverse type .

I looked at the Asmic catalog, and this does not have an entry in the Engineer catalog, in the regular and z section ?

Matt,

The DI belongs to the 516th FA Search Light Battery. It is listed in the ASMIC FA catalog and numbered 516A2.

Hope this helps.

Looks just like the back of an enlisted collar disc, with the center part that threads on to the post.

Yep a V Corps Artillery unit as of 1956, assigned to the 76th Field Artillery Group. It probably wasn't active long, and was disbanded in 1957-58 with the advent of CARS.

Yes, sometimes these are used on German-made DUI's.

That's right atb, very ad hoc, got early-mid 60s NAME Plates that used Double Ribbon Mounts as attachments in example, and these I believe are U.S. Made, so with German stuff even more so one can see a variety of attachments used in this period.
