Marquesas Islands Question.

Hi everyone,

Let me first start off by saying I am not sure if this is in the correct category. I am doing a little research for a paper and I was wondering if there were any US bases on the Island of Nuku Hiva. The only reference I can find anywhere about the Island during WWII was in 1943 when a accidental fire was started on board a US Navy cruiser the USS Concord which killed 26 sailors. There is no other mention I can find about a base or US forces operating on or near the island. I would surmise that since Nuku Hiva was literally in the middle of Nowhere that it was of no real use. I would appreciate any help or information on the area around the late WWII area ( late 1944 through the end of WWII).
