A very recent acquisition. Just wanted to get some input from the experts. In regards to ejection seats, what would this set have been used for exactly. This one is marked Serial Number 5. ALTON IRON WORKS, Inc

Thanks

Did a quick internet search. MB-1 was an early designation for the Genie rocket used with the F-106 and other aircraft. Could be maintenance tools for such or not related at all? The F-4 aircraft used Martin-Baker ejection seats and I believe the tools for the seats would have a MBEU part number stamped into them. Your kit seems to have a 1982 year contract. Hope this information is useful.

Your WAG has helped alot! I agree....this is more likely to be a wrench for mounting a Douglas MB-1 /AIR-2 Genie Missile. The first Nuclear-armed Air to Air weapon and the most powerful interceptor missile designed by the Air Force (per the Boeing website). Thanks for helping me with my "tunnel vision". I guess I will need to change the title......haha! Thanks 72psb and northcoastaero.....

The F-106 had an internal weapons bay, where ordnance/armament was mounted onto an armament rack.

The word "ejector" in this case may refer to ejecting the ordnance away from the aircraft when the weapon was launched. It is possible the MB-1/AIR-2 utilized a special armament rack for the F-106, and this tool kit was used for installing/removing/adjusting this particular unit.

Longbranch....That is a good point. I am not very familiar with the F106 or F4 so all this is new to me. Thank you.

I have also listed this under the main Aircraft & Aviation forum, since it is not instrument or ejection seat related.

  • 5 months later...

Perhaps a minor point in terms of the Ejector rack tools, but the Genie was not a missile--it was totally unguided--and should be referred to as a rocket.
