Estate sale find today. Letter with enclosed currency script from Ltjg Stan Allen to his younger cousin Master Richard Bushnell describing the Teton's arrival in Tokyo Bay on August 29, 1945. Enjoy.

Thanks for sharing your great find. It's interesting to see the censor's stamp on the envelope, yet the war was over. How much longer was censorship enforced, till Sept. 3rd?

 

You are welcome. I think it is a great little group, especially the envelope.

 

As far as censorship goes, President Truman declared the end of hostilities (for the US, that is) as of December 31, 1946. How long censorship of letters remained is a great question. Maybe depending on which theater one was in?
