Steve Brannan Posted September 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2008 Picked up a lapel button with EGA and USMCR. It is the button type which I think was worn in the lapel of the civilian suit. When were these issued? Anyone know!
wolventm Posted September 27, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2008 My opinion : WWII and immediately after. You will see a picture of this type of lapel pin in the 1943 National Geographics. Later Marine Corps Reserve lapel pins were circular with the US Marine Corps Reserve around the outer circumference. A quick way to place a pin such as this as fifties or earlier is the style of construction. After that period of time, the lapel of most suits did not have a complete hold through the lapel to place a buttoniere (SP?) in it. The hole is now false made with a strip of thread sewn on to the material to give that impression. Lapel buttons such as this were made for the earlier style of civilian clothing manufacture when the hole went entirely through wolventm (Capt, USMCRRet)

I also looked through the 1944 medals and decorations National Geographic. I am trying to date what year this Lapel was original released. Does anyone have any further information? Thanks. Brig Posted August 4, 2018 Share #4 Posted August 4, 2018 WWII era...I think through Korea as well, at least until stocks are depleted. I have found a few in groups of that era, emblem on it is quite clearly derived from the P37 enlisted cover emblem

I would love to find some documentation on the Lapel, like a spec sheet, anything with a date on it. If you ever come across anything like that, please let me know. Fly USMC Posted August 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2018 I have seen MANY of these in Korean War Groupings. I don't have exact dates, but certainly issued through the early 1950s
