In a bit of nostalgia I as thinking about this movie my Mother took me and my sisters when it first came out back there in 1966. A comedy with Dick Van Dyke, Robin Crusoe USN. A kinda goofy one bout a Carrier Pilot who bails out over the Pacific during a training flight and winds up on a Tropical Island .

Anyone ever see it? I seen it as mentioned in 1966, but it seems it was re-released in 1974, though I don't remember that.

Anyways, here are some Stills from the movie with Van Dyke in flight gear in the ocean, ID wanted on the helmet, and is it complete? looks like it's missing stuff from it.

US Navy APH-5 with Hardman oxygen mask receivers.White edge molding.Looks complete.

Thanks 72, APH-5, ah ha, the Army used them too I see from a quick glance around, early in the war though, like 61-65 or so, followed by the AFH1 then the SPH4.

Seen the movie years ago. I believe he was playing a F-8 Crusader pilot in this movie. The APH-5 helmet could have originally been setup for nuclear flash reflective flight gear because of the white edge beading. The oxygen mask used would be a MS-22001 with a mini-regulator mounted on the face piece with a REDAR hose with a quick disconnect that plugged into the break-away extension hose on the soft type oxygen/raft/survival kit or RSSK-6 (Rigid Seat Survival Kit) used in the Martin-Baker Mk-F5 ejection seat. Hope this helps.

Yes that's the plane he was driving, F-8 Crusader. And thanks for the additional info, I got this on DVD actually , gonna have to look at it again soon, also will look which Flat Top was used in the movie, not sure a the moment, but I think there might of been footage shot on board, rather then stock footage one might see being used. Also will see if the Department of the Navy was involved in this Disney movie.

Just started watching it again, actually a fun movie. Yes Sirs, complete United States Navy cooperation in filming, and the Flat Top is CV 63, the Kitty Hawk.

Here's a great write up of the entire involvement of Kitty Hawk, and fantastically you'll see that Kitty Hawk, while at North Island, actually hosted the Hollywood Premier of the movie itself on June 25 1966.
