Capt.Confederacy Posted September 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2016 I was visiting an antique mall and saw a peculiar type of chevron and wondered if anyone else had come across one like it. Basically, it looked exactly like the small size combat chevrons that were used from 1948 to 1951 but with maroon stripes on a gold background instead of blue stripes. The size too and construction style was the same as the 1948 chevrons. (Unfortunately, I did not have my phone and could not take a picture.) Could this have been a factory error patch or something for ROTC? Thanks.
patches Posted September 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2016 Guesses, ROTC, or second, some kind of school band. Don't think Police, they tended to use full size stripes right?
phillock Posted September 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2016 Hi there The ID for these purple(maroon?) stripe chevrons is for Seventh Day Adventist Medical Cadet Corps. NOT ROTC. Conscientious Objectors who enlist to serve as medics. sorry no pics as well was just informed. Phill

patches Posted September 26, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2016 Very interesting, a first for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_Cadet_Corps Found two fotos of these stripes (one with Desmond Doss MOH in 1955) and one with what looks to be the standard GI Non Combat Branch type Yellow on Dark Blue. With USA Non Combat type.
phillock Posted September 26, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 26, 2016 Hi all re below from a good friend of mine who owns the shirt and patches. Phill
patches Posted September 27, 2016 Share #8 Posted September 27, 2016 These look Khaki background, almost White, like an Off White, just like the one in the two photos. OP says his are Yellow backround like the Army's Combat Branch chevrons. Were there Yellow background ones as well? Or is does the OP have these with this Light Khaki/White background? We'll have to see what he says. Now the third photo of the guy laying down, the one with the dark background, light colored stripes, Hmm, could this be another variation, like the stripes are this Light Khaki/White color on a Maroon background, and are not GI non combat chevrons after all? That "Medical Corps" (in the Army's Medical Corps Branch colors) rope is interesting too, just like the French Rope, was this something particular to this organization do know? phillock Posted September 27, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 27, 2016 Hi Patches Were not to sure, hopefully Capt Confed could go back and get a pic for confirmation , however as you can see here maroon on white on the shirt looks to be the same colour as the second pic. The 3rd pic does look like the reverse, maybe it was like the goldenlite series in as much one was for active and the other for specialists in the SDA? Lets see if we can find out more however the point is , this is for SDA Medical Corp which we can now add to the various coloured chevrons worn by a legit non military unit. Capt.Confederacy Posted September 28, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted September 28, 2016 I think the cadet corps rank has to be what the rank chevron I saw was. It was the exact same color stripes and same size. Also the background, while not white, was a golden color like the one in the picture with the cadets in ridgeway caps. Thanks, guys, for the pix. I had never even heard of this cadet corps before this topic came up.
patches Posted September 28, 2016 Share #11 Posted September 28, 2016 No Maroon chevrons to be seen worn by be these youngsters, but a great shot of Desmond T. Doss, Doss of course was not on active duty here in this 50s photo, but is wearing one of his old uniforms for the occasion.
