268th C.A. Posted September 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2016 Hello, I have this medal and my questions are, does anyone have one with a ribbon? second, was this just a purchased souvineer medal ? I know it was not an issue medal. The building on the rear says Ernie Pyle. We all know uncle Ernie. Thanks in advance, David Link to comment

The Takarazuka Theater, at Yurakucho built in 1934, was requisitioned by Occupation forces from 1945-1952 for use as a movie and stage theater for Allied military personnel. During this time, it was named the "Ernie Pyle" theater, after the beloved American journalist killed in 1945 during the Iwo Jima campaign. The Takarazuka theater was demolished in 1998. Note that the date is different on the medals, and the shape was different too. So I would guess that they were a Souvenir item that our troops could purchase, but just my guess. Link to comment
