NMMC new SBD

Finally had a chance to go up and see the museum's new display of a SBD dive bomber they added the first of the year. Looks great hanging beside one their Corsairs.

I've seen an SBD (I believe) hanging in an airport. Can't remember where though - Chicago?

O'Hare has a Wildcat in Terminal 2.

 

Midway has a SBD hung in Concourse A.

Must have been Midway then, I just thought it was pretty neat (but I wouldn't walk under it). Thanks.

Here's a shot of it when it first got "airborne".

 

Many of the people you can see between the propeller and the bomb are the master craftsmen who restored it after it spent 50 years at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

 

You may also notice that the red, yellow, and blue prop stripes are missing. Those were added later, after it was raised into place.

Here is a pic I took last January as the SBD neared completion at the Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles, before being moved to Quantico.
