Napo39 Posted September 7, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2016 Hi, I bought this DUI like the 2nd Brigade 1st Cavalry Division. Screw back. Manufacturer: NS MEYER INC NEW YORK + Shield But when I read the trading post of ASMIC, I think it's the 1st Brigade. What's the difference between these 2 brigade's DUI. Thank you

1SG_1st_Cav Posted September 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2016 1st Brigade has the Black bend as above, 2nd Brigade has a Blue bend. These go all the way back to the 1920's and later.

MPage Posted September 10, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2016 The 1st and 2nd Cavalry Brigade designs from the 1920s--early 30s had red and blue horse's heads, respectively. They were different units than the later ROAD brigades. This apparently is Vietnam era(?)

Napo39 Posted September 10, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted September 10, 2016 I find in a trading post of ASMIC that the black horse is erroneously attributed to a Brigade but worn by Special Troop c1941. In another trading post there is no information about color but in the pictures we can't see if it's red or black. It's more easy for light blue. In another we ca see light bend for 2nd Brigade et for the 1st it's the same proble with black and white pictures.
rlyoun3910 Posted September 17, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 17, 2016 Here's what I gathered from the Ft Hood Museum and Jay Massaro's collection at Camp Mabry (Austin). I'm going on the premise as the Museum is I believe that each brigade was broken down by color, red, white, blue as 1st, 2nd, & 3rd respectively. The first two are VIet Nam;
rlyoun3910 Posted September 17, 2016 Share #10 Posted September 17, 2016 I'm sure there's so many, many more out there. The 1st Cav has a long history (Thanks to MacArthur).
rlyoun3910 Posted September 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted September 17, 2016 I originally thought a red sash and red horse was Division Arty, but apparently not. What does the jury say? The third crest below is 2nd Cavalry Brigade, which was in China/Burma Theater. Interesting crest.

The third crest below is 2nd Cavalry Brigade, which was in China/Burma Theater. Interesting crest. 2d Cavalry Brigade had a blue horse's head and black bend. Many of your interesting examples are head-scratchers although some can be identified and were worn by units. Some probably are fantasy pieces. In the 20s--30's, most of the 1st Cav DI's were not approved by TIOH but were worn.
Napo39 Posted September 18, 2016 Author Share #13 Posted September 18, 2016 Hi, Thanks for all these photos and informations. On month ago, I bought these repros, one with red bend and another with green horse head. If I understood, the first is for the 2nd Brigade but what's about the green horse head
MPage Posted September 18, 2016 Share #14 Posted September 18, 2016 Hi, Thanks for all these photos and informations. On month ago, I bought these repros, one with red bend and another with green horse head. If I understood, the first is for the 2nd Brigade but what's about the green horse head The one on the left has the original design for division artillery; the one on the left (I think) is 3d Brigade, (raised in early 60s).
