one50 Posted September 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2016 I'm a sucker for US gas masks still in the original manufactures box. This is #14 for me still with the box...the down side, this box was opened by the seller to take a photo of the contents. I'm sad he did, I would have paid a premium if he didn't. Oh well, cats out of the bag....lets see what s inside. When you purchase masks with boxes, the key reason for me is the label. It has to still be on the box, nice and clear. This one has a great label, minus a few bug bites. 76 years will do that to you.
one50 Posted September 5, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted September 5, 2016 As we pull it out of the box we see a complete mask with carrier and protective cardboard. Remove the card board and we have a minty untouched mask. The rubber is just starting to harden. I treated it with armor all to prevent UV and Ozone damage which is the worst thing for a mask. The mask was clean, is still clean, and will go back in the box for long term sitting on my shelf. Please note the matching numbers on the carrier and the mask. one50 Posted September 5, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted September 5, 2016 Look closely at the cardboard protecting the front of the mask. It has yellow paint on it. They stamped it and boxed it before the paint could dry. That's totally cool in my opinion. Lets look at the snout a little closer.... Yup, that's an anchor with a US as seen on the label in the first post. Super cool. These masks did not come with filters. The lens is amber now, I do not know if it was amber from the factory. Every time I see this mask, it has an amber lens, could just be age. Sorry for some of the side way pics, but i can't seem to rotate them. Thanks for looking. rambob Posted September 17, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2016 one50, After reading your post I vaguely remembered that I might have a gas mask similar to yours in my cave. So after digging around a bit I found the following example which seems to be a later model. Also, the mask and carrying bag were sealed into a cellulose bag for vapor protection, before being packed into the box. I show the cellulose bag folded up in one of the photos. BTW. When I bought this mask, I opened it from the bottom so the label on top would not be damaged. I really do love finding WWII items in this NIB condition!! one50 Posted September 22, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted September 22, 2016 Bob, that's one of my favorite masks along with the NDO Mark I and ND MARK III. I'll be calling you soon, I have to stop over. Yes, I will even bring a towel for my drool. Thank you for showing that off. Dan
