Dirk Posted September 4, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2016 They are just very small.....here is another recent pick up....a shot glass size boxing trophy to a Shanghai based Marine. The venue was a boxing tournament held by the Shanghai Volunteer Corps or SVC as it was known. The SVC was a Multinational force of civilian volunteers living in Shanghai who were responsible for assisting in the city's defense. They were grouped by nationality into various companies. There was an American company, a British company, French, Jewish, German, etc...even a Chinese company. After the Russian Revolution there was so many Russians living in the city that they formed a paid full time SVC Russian Regiment. It was this regiment that normally hosted such boxing events. The trophy is in silver and is Chinese made. The front of the trophy has the SVC badge with the 1854 date commemorating the Battle of Muddy Flats, when a British and US lead force defeated some Imperial troops outside the city. The badge features the 8 pointed Brunswick star and the flags of each supporting nation. SVC stuff is IMO hard to find and when up for auction tends to travel back to China. It is nice to add this small trophy to the collection to show the link between the SVC and the Marines who eagerly competed in many of their sports tournaments. Rustykamel Posted September 10, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2016 Very, very nice, Dirk--first time I've seen one of these beauties. I wrote a little bit about China Marine boxers, but not Pvt. Majewski. Marine hero Slug Marvin was a member of this group. If anyone is interested, here it is: http://www.usmcpresentarms.com/adsusmc_china_confrontations.html Again, a wonderful addition to your collection. Best wishes, Jim
