navydaughter Posted August 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2016 My mother recently found a patch of my father's in his Navy things. I tried Googling it and only came up with one on E-bay that did not give specifics. My father was a Vietnam vet who served on the USS Boston aboard a missile cruiser. I was hoping to find someone who knows more about this patch. Unfortunately we never came across it when he was living to be able to ask him ...I've attached a photo of it
vintageproductions Posted August 30, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2016 It's a generic novelty type patch for Navy guys who served in or off the coast of Vietnam
firefighter Posted August 31, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 31, 2016 I agree with Bob. Probably for a GM, Gunners Mate. It looks Japanese made.Great looking patch.
sigsaye Posted August 31, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 31, 2016 Amazing patch these were made up for sale to the crews of ships. It shows a twin 5 inch 38 cal.
gwb123 Posted August 31, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 31, 2016 At the risk of stating the obvious, it represents a twin 5 inch turret firing inland from the sea.
sigsaye Posted August 31, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 31, 2016 Generally, there was only 1 Gunners Mate per turret these guns required all hands. I served an a single mount as an SM3. But, yes, generic , cranked out in various countries, worn on work jackets. Great patches.
