Mark 2 by Ka-bar Question

Picked this up recently, and upon examining it and comparing it to Coles Book III, there doesn’t appear to be anything shown that matches it in terms of markings and pommel attachment. The markings are USN (sans serif) on one side and KA-BAR (serif) on the other side of the blade. The pommel is thick with the rectangular peen. This is different than shown on pages 86-89 for the Mark 2 which have the KA-BAR over ORLEAN, N.Y. /USN or KA-BAR/USN Mark 2 with either the thin pommel with pin or the thick pommel with either the screw-on nut or a circular peen. It more closely resembles the USMC Fighting Knife on page 94, second one from the top, except for the USN instead of USMC. As explained on the bottom of page 94 Ka-bar didn’t follow the blue prints very carefully for the Marines so I’m assuming that it was the same for the Mark 2 and what I have is just a variation.

Older post, but I have one of these with the circular marks made by the peen as well.

Maybe a "sub-variant"?? :) LOL
