Got a nice grouping in today from an Ohioan who served in the 97th Infantry Division in Europe, and after the German surrender was sent to Japan as part of the 1st Cavalry Division. The family kept a Japanese sword and rifle and a couple Japanese magazines. First is a roughly 2 X 2 foot Japanese flag...silk, with the meatball having bled out.....

...in Europe he picked up a couple noise makers....a German marked Belgian FN Model 22 and a luger. The Luger is a mix of parts...a 1921 dated barrel and a byf marked receiver....they have a holster somewhere but I don't know which gun it goes to.

...some letters he sent wrote...the larger one is on onion skin and mentions the pistols, a shotgun, and specifically the luger.

You might already know this, but the flag is a post war occupation flag with the veteran's full name on it, with the Japanese kanji above it stating, "Certain Victory".

I tried to correct the part about the luger markings. It should say:

...a 1921 dated receiver and a byf marked toggle....

...there's a couple other US items, but I was surprised they brought his medals in...the Vet did this himself...the extra ribbons are taped to the reverse of the frame.
