cerick1450 Posted August 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2016 I purchased a large bunch of ammo and gun parts this week. One item was this hammer. It is marked with a P. It still has some colors to the case hardening on it. Is this Civil war era. Thanks

Leatherneck72 Posted August 15, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 15, 2016 Looks like an original hammer for the P1861 Springfield rifle. I'll have to double check in my musket references.

summersdogs Posted August 30, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2016 Pretty sure it's for the US Springfield "Trapdoor" rifle. There are several "models" of this really beautiful weapon, and iIdon't know if the hammer changed in any of them. Here's a website that might help. And there are other folks here on the Forum that are 'way more knowledgeable than I am. http://www.trapdoorcollector.com/ Lynne
gomorgan Posted August 30, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 30, 2016 It's for a percussion weapon and looks like my 1863 Springfield hammer, I've got a model 1873 & 1884 trapdoor and the hammers do not have the cup.
cerick1450 Posted August 31, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted August 31, 2016 From what I can tell. I appears to match 1863 springfield examples I have seen on line...
