lambo35 Posted August 6, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2016 Just a WAG. Because of the general location where it was found = glider parts [wing?]. Also the writing = "disconnect wiring before ……ing wing …… ? Hope this helps some. Chuck
WWIIDADS Posted August 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2016 The Waco CG-4A glider was fabric covered on mostly plywood framing and honeycomb wood supports. There was some aluminum and steel for strength in interior of wings. This is aluminum skinned and framed. Probably a prop plane. Looks like parts of invasion stripes. C-47?? I welcome opposing assessments.
ram957 Posted August 6, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 6, 2016 Looks like it could be this Roundel ...if so it appears this was a pre D Day Aircraft

lambo35 Posted August 6, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 6, 2016 Could the corrugated looking pieces be part of a B-24 bomb bay doors? Chuck
ram957 Posted August 6, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 6, 2016 If I remember correctly the B-17 inner wing panels also have that corrugated material
phantomfixer Posted August 7, 2016 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2016 from the size of the USAAF roundel, it looks to be too small for a B-17 or other heavy bomber.. and the red outline was most likely factory paint...good stuff...if this plane flew on post Sept 1943 the outline was painted over in the field...in haste, and maybe just one coat...point is after 70 years of being in the elements, the top layer could have eroded away .. I am thinking a plane smaller than a 4 engine bomber..
