Silver Cigarette Box, Torpedo Squadron Four, August 1942

Recommended Posts

Here is a sterling silver cigarette box that was presented to Gordon and Francis Owens by Torpedo Squadron Four in August 1944. Here also are items that were in the box when I bought it.

Hello kanemono,

I saw your other post about these items in the "Groupings" section. Do you have any idea what, if any, connection there was between VT-4, which was stationed on the East Coast of the U.S. (while about to transition from TBD to TBF aircraft in August 1942), and Mr. Owens?

Regards, Paul

Paul,

I could not find any connection between VT-4, stationed on the East Coast of the U.S. and Owens stationed in Hawaii. However, there are five months of 1942 missing from the records on Ancestry. Owens could have been temporary transferred for training to the US East Coast and the box presented to he and his wife at that time.
