Sarge8 Posted July 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2016 Wasn't sure if I should post here or in ephemera, but thought would be better here. Dr. Josephine Stephens (1902 - 1994) was from Monongahela, PA. Her service dates were 27 Nov 1943 to 26 Jan 1946. She was in the ETO, and from what I can gather was stationed in Paris, and probably was Dr. to the large contingent of WACs stationed there. This was in a collection of photos from a WAC who was also stationed in Paris.
29navy Posted July 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2016 There's a nice write-up of her service in the Book "To Heal and To Serve: Women Army Doctors in World War Two" by Mercedes Graf. https://www.amazon.com/Heal-Serve-Women-Doctors-World/dp/1555717446/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1469803079&sr=1-2&keywords=to+heal+and+to+serve
Sarge8 Posted July 29, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted July 29, 2016 29Navy: Thanks for the lead! Just ordered the book. I had looked on-line for her and only saw a few newspaper references to 1952 in her home town. Frank
29navy Posted July 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2016 She was a pediatrician but was classified as general duty but handled most of the women's cases. It's a very good book.
