phantomfixer Posted July 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2016 Teamski has a certain knack for IDing acft....found this on facebook...ACFT boneyard....so what acft is it ??? I personally do not know..... but think it is a C124 cargo compartment, and I could be very wrong, and most likely I am..
Teamski Posted July 28, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2016 No, not a C-124..... Still researching. The square windows and the greenhouse canopy is key here. -Ski In Memory Of......Pte Harold Griffiths, 1805, 1/6th Manchester Regt, KIA June 4th, 1915 in GallipoliCpl Isaac Judges, 40494, 6th East Yorkshire Regt, KIA October 3rd, 1917 in YpresMay they rest in peace..... northcoastaero Posted July 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 28, 2016 Just a guess, I would say C-46 Commando variant? Will do more research.
Teamski Posted July 29, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2016 C-46's didn't have square windows. The closest I can find for this combo is the HU-16 Abatross and that isn't correct. -Ski In Memory Of......Pte Harold Griffiths, 1805, 1/6th Manchester Regt, KIA June 4th, 1915 in GallipoliCpl Isaac Judges, 40494, 6th East Yorkshire Regt, KIA October 3rd, 1917 in YpresMay they rest in peace..... northcoastaero Posted July 29, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2016 Other guesses: -C-82 Packet -C-119 Flying Boxcar -XC-120 Packplane (though it was scrapped?) -A variant of one of the above? Will do more research.
Teamski Posted July 29, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 29, 2016 OK, I think it is a B-26 Marauder bomb bay forward bulkhead. There are a pair of forward facing seats for the radio operator and navigator forward of the bulkhead and one of those seats might be what we are actually looking at with missing skin. The windows may have been an executive conversion addition as some Marauders were modded after the war for this purpose. Here is a shot of Flak Bait's bulkhead. Whatchu think? Remember that this is looking aft, so some of the details might differ...... -Ski In Memory Of......Pte Harold Griffiths, 1805, 1/6th Manchester Regt, KIA June 4th, 1915 in GallipoliCpl Isaac Judges, 40494, 6th East Yorkshire Regt, KIA October 3rd, 1917 in YpresMay they rest in peace..... northcoastaero Posted July 29, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 29, 2016 -A result of more research: -PB4Y Privateer, possibly a firefighter? My best guess so far. -PB2Y Coronado.
Teamski Posted July 29, 2016 Share #9 Posted July 29, 2016 -A result of more research: -PB4Y Privateer, possibly a firefighter? My best guess so far. -PB2Y Coronado. northcoastaero Posted July 29, 2016 Share #12 Posted July 29, 2016 Teamski-Nice ID. To me, phantomfixer's original image of the interior looked roomier than what I thought a PBY would be. The PB4Y Privateer had similar square windows also. Now we know what it is.
Teamski Posted July 29, 2016 Share #13 Posted July 29, 2016 Well if you hadn't planted the PB4Y in there, I wouldn't have guessed. -Ski In Memory Of......Pte Harold Griffiths, 1805, 1/6th Manchester Regt, KIA June 4th, 1915 in GallipoliCpl Isaac Judges, 40494, 6th East Yorkshire Regt, KIA October 3rd, 1917 in YpresMay they rest in peace.....
