Jumpin Jack Posted July 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2016 The flask is one of two that were issued as survival gear. On the exterior is listed the contents of the flask. The flask itself, when emptied, served to hold water--a necessary ingredient for survival. It is WWII era. Jack
doyler Posted July 24, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2016 Richard This is a container that came with survival components and when empty could be used for a water flask. There were army and navy versions.I have the E-17 kit. There are variations in the flasks too. Some had a wire bail and some used tape to secure. Here is a more detailed topic started by Dustin which shows the types of flasks and contents and model designations. Its a really informative topic. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/8605-personal-aid-kits/?fromsearch=
dustin Posted July 24, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2016 Yah that topic is a little outdated, since then a lot more information and technical data has surfaced but much of the basic principle models are illustrated. What you have is a late WWII production E-17 sustenance kit flask.
