Hi Everyone

I have a couple questions and would like your advice/opinions;

In collecting Vietnam war era patches, are the enclosed pocket patches in hangers more collectible/desirable then shoulder patches? How difficult are they to find?

Thanks

For the most part pocket hangers had more common unit patches. But there are some that are rare and unique. I think the hangers are less common, but that doesn’t make them rare.

Thanks for you reply. I really enjoy collecting the pocket patches, I guess it is just a personal preference.

And thats thing. Collect what you like. Whether its pop tops or rare coins. Its all about what you like and enjoy. There are less pocket patches/hangers than shoulder sleeve insignia

Here's 2 I recently got from a local picker and they came from the same estate. They will probably be with me at the SOS for trade in a few weeks as I don't collect Vietnam stuff generally. Come by my table J 68-69 and see me.

The VNSF patch that was used as a pocket patch for the 5th SFG personnel was supposed to be worn as either a pocket hanger or sewn to the pocket.  This picture was taken in July 1969 as SSG Perterson (L), me, and SFC Forest K. Foreman (whom became the CSM for JFK Center and Delta and his picture is in the book 'Delta Force' by Beckwith) and it shows the subdued patches being used.  I could not find my hanger (or I just did not care) for the pinning of the Bronze Star.  The officer awarding us the BS was the CO for B-32.  Note the three different uniforms worn at that time.

 A what looks like a U.S. made US Army Strategic Communications Command patch used for this pocket fob.  US Army Strategic Communications Command was worn by various small signals units during the course of the war.

Recent LDNN pocket hangers. I had never seen or even heard of any hand/machine made LDNN pocket hangers until I got this one from a SEAL Team 1 LDNN advisor back in Sept of 2020.

The 3 LDNN hangers I got form a SEAL Team 1 guy as a grouping last year.
