The medal is the first edition of the Society of the Army of the Philippines member medal. The organisation only existed from 1899-1913, for service in the Philippine Insurrection. The design was changed after less than a year at the request of President McKinley. This is not a common medal. I've seen one other in person, at the museum I work at.
