KurtA Posted July 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2016 Picked this up recently, mainly because it looks so cool. Rather large - 5 inches across. USN Patrol Squadron 56 was in existence from 1946 to 1991. This patch would date from the earlier part of that date range. Really nicely made with ribbed embroidery. Has a Japanese-made "look" to it. KurtA Posted July 16, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted July 16, 2016 Cool patche...makes me want to flip on Sunrise Theater...fix a bowl of sugar pops...watch Mothra or Godzilla... Haha. Sounds like the perfect evening, Robert! I could probably sell this on Ebay as a Game of Thrones patch (for non-fans of the show, google Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons)
manayunkman Posted July 4, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2021 I think you are correct that this is an earlier patch. No VP-56 scroll on the bottom and it seems that the earlier dragons were blue and turned to green, I’m guessing, late 50s or early 60s. Very nice variation. manayunkman Posted July 4, 2021 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2021 Here are a couple from I think early 60 or maybe late 50’s. Ribbed details embroidered on twill.
