aerialbridge Posted July 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2016 May our British brothers who died 100 years ago never be forgotten. “The first day of the Battle of the Somme, in northern France, was the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army and one of the most infamous days of World War One. On 1 July 1916, the British forces suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 fatalities. They gained just three square miles of territory.” http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zy98xsg

Allan H. Posted July 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 2, 2016 Here is a link to the thread started yesterday on the subject. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/270137-july-1st-100th-anniversary-of-the-battle-of-the-somme/ The number of British and French casualties at the end of this campaign is still to this day a staggering number. The Germans were blooded severely as well. God bless them all. Allan
aerialbridge Posted July 2, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted July 2, 2016 LB, I was happy to discover that BBC link yesterday morning with a lot of interesting information, interactive, etc., and figured others would as well. Allan, I had not seen that post you linked to but had noticed the event had not been noted under this history category.
Allan H. Posted July 3, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2016 I think this was the more appropriate place to put this discussion. I am glad that the event has been remembered. Allan
