Caristo was a friend of a buddy of mine who was also a BDQ. The beret he is wearing is a BDQ beret and known as a "Cocks comb" style. Caristo has since died, 6-7 years ago my buddy was asking if I could pick up some field manuals around here to send to Caristo in South America. According to my friend, Caristo was a super trooper

I stumbled upon this site looking for info on Fred. Fred was one of many SF officers I worked with at SOG HQ, both in Cholon section of Saigon and then at the old MACV HQ downtown across the street from the Italian embassy. I was only a PFC at the time, but, like Fred, I spoke Vietnamese courtesy of special DLI at Ft. Bliss.

At first, I had a nice cushy, safe job in the Security section and Fred would be in and out of the office, but always stopped by to tell me a lewd joke in VN so my office mates weren't in on the joke. Fred convinced me to switch from Security to OP-34 with him. He went on to be promoted to Major and I went on to OP34A missions out of Danang and NKP Thailand. I almost cried when I saw this jacket and the bracelet as it reminded me of Fred and his courage and devotion.
