Tonomachi Posted June 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2016 This is I believe a USN Special Weapons Unit, Atlantic (Norfolk, VA) patch. I haven't been able to find much on the Internet. There was also a SWUPAC (USN Special Weapons Unit, Pacific) and both seem to have been around since the early 1950s. These units seem to have had something to do with the Navy's inventory of nuclear weapons. The design of the patch looks like there is the numeral "9" in the center so was there a SWULANT 9? What is a USN Special Weapons Unit and what were their duties? I don't believe SWULANT or SWUPAC exists anymore having read something on the Internet about a change in classifications to the Nuclear Weapons Training Center in 1958. Anybody know? firefighter Posted June 19, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2016 Many thanks for the photograph so this is an ordnance aviation outfit. From what I could find it looks like it.But it may have been a land based outfit with ship detachments? I like how it has that they, ..handle all types of 'CONFIDENTIAL' bombs and weapons...So it sounds like nukes. Great looking patch.
