Stalag VIII A "dog tag"

I received this today and thought I'd share. Based on what I've been able to find, Stalag VIII A was an Allied POW camp that accepted it's first 1,800 US prisoners in December, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. Unless by some miracle this specific number is listed somewhere (and there are several accounts online of US servicemen who recall their prisoner numbers), I'll probably never know who it belonged to. Hope it's OK to post, I checked the forum and found other examples.

 

As a side note, it may have been in a collection or displayed by its previous owner before as there is a good amount of glue residue on the reverse.

Nice dog tag. It looks like a dug relic. I'm not sure how important it really is, but some claim the corrosion will eat up the zinc more and more over time eventually destroying it. So you may want to think about cleaning it. There's a couple of methods.

I'm guessing it's a dug tag from Europe and not one issued to an American.
