Interesting Unit Marked Airplane Fabric

Found recently in a local antique shop is this 39" x 22" fabric that reads: 99th Observation Squadron. It appears to have a flexible thin aluminum border that is wrapped in the fabric. I am not an expert in airplane parts so I don't know what type of plane this would have been a part of.

very nice and looks authentic. The 99th is one of the oldest squadrons in the Air Corps. I would look at DH-4 or SE-5 aircraft to see if you can find a match.

Thanks for the information. I have tried to find close ups of the DH-4 and SE-5 but only found a few. Couldn't nail down the size and shape of the panel I have. I did see how all of those "hooks" are used by lacing the panels together. The large hole in the fabric is pre-made and not a damaged spot. So I assume something came through to the outside.
