210. PIOTRZKWSKI, J. L.

Joseph L. Piotrzkwski, for some reason his nickname was Pete.

Was able to find some items.

An enlisted man in WWII, October 1944, became a officer in 1952, uncertain if he seen action in Korea as an officer or an enlistedman.

Unknown what units he was in in WWII or Korea. in Vietnam 101st Abn Div (AM) 1st Battalion 501st Infantry CO, he may have also done either an earlier tour (173rd Abn Bde???) or a later one, uncertain.

After WWII and before Korea, Piotrzkwski was a New York National Guardsman in the Buffalo area's 174th Infantry, 27th Infantry Division, a Sergeant First Class, see page 135 of this PDF, Report of the Adjutant General New York National Guard 1949.

https://dmna.ny.gov/historic/research/AG_Reports/AG_Report_1949.pdf

Piotrzkwski in 1962 and later in 1972.

attachicon.gifrsz_pio20010.jpgattachicon.gifpio.jpg

At one point, 1973-74 he was G1 of XVIII Abn Corps, Fort Bragg North Carolina.

A Korean War and Vietnam unit update, remembering this topic where he is mentioned, 38th Infantry 2nd Infantry Division 1953 #59, good chance he was with this unit in combat.

And this PDF for Vietnam, a Battalion Commander in the 101, 1st Battalion 501st Infantry 67-68.

Then SSG Olender was assigned to Company E 161st Inf as a Platoon Guide during the invasion of Luzon. He was a member of a reinforced platoon sized combat patrol with a mission to determine the Japanese size and disposition within the Philippine village of San Manuel. The patrol become heavily engaged with Japanese forces during a 4 hour fire fight. He was one of 4 EMs wounded during the fight. SSG Olender was seriously wounded with a gun shot wound to the face while the patrol was withdrawing from San Manuel. The next day, 24 Jan 1945, SSG Olender was transferred to the 23rd Field Hospital in San Fabian.

Thanks for that addition peter.

Here is the bio from the 187th Book "Steel Berets". CSM Sprouse is listed in the book as the Honorary Command Sergeant Major of the Regiment.

The photo of Sprouse is from the 1950 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment Unit History. He was then assigned to F Company 2nd Battalion.

Fantastic addition on Sprouse Leigh. We see he was in the 188th Glider Infantry, that means he was a Glider Trooper rather than a Paratrooper at this stage correct?

253. SPURLOCK, Aubrey O.

The only thing I'm getting on Spurlock, an EM, so far was he was a POW in WWII, and held at Stammlager III B. Any other info would be welcomed.

256. STEED, Carlee

Units unknown, seems to have been in the ETO/MTO in WWII, but from this depiction we can ascertain he was in the 1st Cav, which war we don't know yet, Korea or Vietnam.

And in WWII, note no CIB or Collar Discs.

261. SWINDALL, Henry S.

About all I could find so far

http://www.gassettfuneralhome.net/memsol.cgi?user_id=1710587

This copied and pasted from his tribute page, infers Buna, that means 32nd Infantry Division, Guna should of course read Gona, Leyta as Leyte, but no other unit info or rosters for the Red Arrow, so to on Korea and Vietnam units.

Dennis Endicott

I and many other young troops knew Sergeants Major Swindall and were honored to know such a man. Buna and Guna New Guinea,Leyta, 2nd Chinese offensive and Vietnam too. 3 combat infantrymans badges and the Infantry Hall of fame show him as one of the best.

His Obit, strangely makes no mention of his long Army service.
