Not really uncommon either if they're not mentioned in stories or DVIDS etc. As for the patch I'm coming up with zeros as well beyond the VN patch mentioned above. The only plausible option I can think of is that maybe he is 1st Signal Brigade, but got the wrong patch and no one corrected him. That is kind of out there for theory, but man I can't find a thing on his patch. That being said the Army seems to be coming out with new designs or re-using old ones constantly. But I'd imagine that particular SSI wouldn't be readily available at the clothing and sales store. I checked TIOH site and it doesn't show it to be a new unit using the USARV SSI.
