Is this a WW1 flight helmet?

Recommended Posts

I picked this up recently and didn't pay a lot. I Was told it was a leather WW1 flight helmet. It obviously needs to be resewn. It is made by Spalding and I was wondering if it could be a football helmet instead? Thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a helmet like that and from what I've been able to determine it's a WW1 U.S. Army Air Service Summer Leather Flying Helmet valued around $200 or so in the shape mine is in.
