ponyradish Posted June 9, 2016 #1 Posted June 9, 2016 I need some help with this dagger. The handle is bone or ivory. The blade is 12" in length and the scabbard is carved from wood. There is some etching on the sides of the blade but to faint to recognize. This was a Vet purchased piece but no recollection of where he obtained it. Thanks in advance, Pony. Ever seen anything like this Doyler?
Bob Hudson Posted June 9, 2016 #2 Posted June 9, 2016 I moved this to SPOILS of war since it appears to be a vet bringback that is non-US. It does look like bone on the handle. How many sides to the blade?
Bob Hudson Posted June 9, 2016 #3 Posted June 9, 2016 I did a quick Google search and found something similar used for knife sharpening:
ponyradish Posted June 11, 2016 Author #5 Posted June 11, 2016 I found out it was captured from a Japanese soldier in the Pacific during WW2.
sundance Posted June 11, 2016 #6 Posted June 11, 2016 That is a really neat item. Did a prior owner say it was a bring back from the Pacific?
doyler Posted June 11, 2016 #7 Posted June 11, 2016 Lol...nope never saw one.My first thought was a first model luft dagger blade with a added handle. Some strange stuff comes out of the pacific.I have a chinese sword (one of two) taken after a charge of japanese soldiers in the Phillipines.Came from a medic who found two if these amongst the KIAs on the field. Thanks for posting.
