CplJegs1944 Posted June 9, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2016 I'm trying to find out what Ship(s) my Grandpa (Joseph Stanley Jeglinski) sailed on during World War 2. Unfortunately, it doesn't say on his discharge papers, but I do have the Departure and Arrival Dates. Date Of Departure: Destination: Date of Arrival: September 20, 1944 ETO September 26, 1944 May 6, 1945 USA May 19th, 1945 He did his basic training at Camp Fannin in Tyler Texas. I'm assuming he took a train to the East coast for departure Can anyone please help??? He sent a Sweetheart Pillow to my Grandma from Baltimore Maryland, would he departed or arrived there at some point? Any info would be Greatly Appreciated!!!! Thanks!! Bob Hudson Posted June 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 9, 2016 The Queen Mary left New York with over 9,000 troops on September 20, 1944, but arrived Sept 25, not 26 as your grandfather's records show. Now it could be they did not leave the ship and touch on foreign soil until one day after arrival. Or, of course, that was not his ship.

It's always a possibility he was on the Queen Mary
wcdino685 Posted June 13, 2016 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2016 If he did set sail on the Queen Mary he was being escorted with a VIP on board "After shakedown in the Caribbean, Haynsworth departed New York on 20 September 1944 escorting Queen Mary with Prime Minister Winston Churchill on board."
