USMC Overseas Cap /w Pin

Hey guys, any chance this WW1 USMC 79th Company Overseas cap, with Indianhead pin is of the period and legit???? said possibly French made.

Inidianhead looks good, type you sometimes see on the knot of the fourragerre. I was with the 79th Co when I was in 2/6, so seeing these types of things always is a treat. Absolutely fantastic cover

The number and letter is period as well. Nice cap!

I'm with Mark on this one. I saw it pop on eBay today and really like the parts but wonder how long they've been on there?

 

The seller also has a WW1 era honorable discharge pin for sale and claims it belonged to the same guy as the cap.

 

It is a looker though! Good luck deciphering the name.

Duke or Anyone, it there any information on the 2nd ID pin, or Indianhead pin that has been seen on French Fourragere? Are they a vet add, or wartime, or possibly occupation? I have seen 2 examples of what appear to be brass, and enamel such as this posted and the one you have in your collection. All information greatly appreciated..

I'm Brig...I was in the 79th Company from 2011-13. 2/6 refers to it's companies by the WWI numbers still/again, not the actual and official Echo/Fox/etc and uses the Indian Head diamond to mark parking spots, offices, etc.

 

But damn, you're still being about a decade too old in your estimate.

I've seen several...indian head, EGA, etc. Some enameled, some all medal. Some marked BB&B, most unmarked. They are unofficial, pin was likely originally meant as a lapel pin that some vets started pinning on the knots and the practice caught on

Brig, I believe Indian Heads were official even branch pins. Need to find the document, but it is actually a long list of what could be worn on the fourragere.
