WW2 339th Fighter Squadron A2 Flight Jacket With Patch

A2 jacket from the 339th FS. Latest find from the estate of a WW2 veteran He told me that his dad was in the 339th when they shot down Admiral Yamamoto. This is a size 42 made by I Spiewak & Sons.

Very nice find. I used to have a group history. I will check and see if I still have it and if I can dig anything up on him. On a side note,. Spiewak A-2s always seem to have that finish wear on the shoulders and arms. For some reason their leather tanning process didn't stand up as well as other makers.

5) MCU Major John W. Mitchell, Capt. Thomas Lanphier, Lt. Rex Barber, Lt. Besby Holmes, Lt. Douglas S. Canning, Lt. Deton Goerke, Lt. Julius Jacobson.

6) MCU Each pilot in cockpit of P-38, ready for take-off.

 

*This squadron is famous for shooting down Japanese ADM Isoroku Yamamoto - that is why these scenes were filmed.
